Description

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is a 2006 movie (released August 4, 2006) that covers the fictional story of NASCAR driver Ricky Bobby (played by Will Ferrell). Ricky Bobby is a NASCAR driver that comes across as an ignorant and proud American. Bobby is touted as the best driver in the NASCAR, yet Jean Girard (Sacha Baron Cohen), a French Formula One driver, threatens Bobby’s career and reputation after arriving in the United States to join NASCAR. The scene here details Bobby and Girards first meeting. A transcription of the scene is below:

*“Segment” (composed by Charlie Parker) performed by the Ben Perowsky Trio plays over the jukebox. *
Cal Naughton, Jr. (CN): What is that?
Guy at Bar: Someone played a tape of something dying or something
Ricky Bobby (RB): Turn that crap off, what’s going on?
CN: I want this music out of my head!
RB: Hey Turn that off!
CN: ** Convulsion-like noises**
RB: Turn that off right now!
**A bystander unplugs jukebox to stop Perowsky’s rendition of “Segment.” Ominous western-like music begins.**
Jean Girard (JG): Why did you stop the jazz music? Was it not pleasant for you?
RB: No one plays jazz here at the pit stop, okay?
JG: So why is the song on the jukebox?
Bar tender: We keep it on there for profiling purposes. We also got the Pep Shop Boys and Sea
lJG: My name is Jean Girard, and I am a racing car driver just like you, except I am from Formula Un. I am the greatest one in the whole world. I have been following you career with great interest Monsieur Bobby.
RB: I can’t understand a word you’ve said the whole time.
CN: You eat some peanut butter or something
?RB: Yeah, you sound like a dog with peanut butter on the roof of your mouth.JG: I think what you are hearing is my accent. I am French
RB: You say you’re French?
JG: Oui.
RB: We? No we are not French, we’re American, ‘cause you’re in America, the greatest country on the planet.
JG: well what have you given the world apart from George bush, cheerios, and the Thigh Master?
RB: Chinese food.
CN: Chinese food.
JG: That’s from china.
RB: Pizza
JG: Italy
CN: Chimichanga
JG: Mexico
RB: Really, smarty pants? What did French-land give us?JG: We invented Democracy, existentialism, and the Ménage à Trois
CN: **laughs** those are three pretty good things.RB: Hey!
CN: well that last one is pretty cool.

Later….

RB: You let go of me you formula one jazz nut-job.
