Benny Goodman or Artie Shaw? A Medal of Honor hero in NCIS details an argument between him and the man he killed.
The episode “Call of Silence,” season 2 episode 30, of NICS revolves around an aging World War II veteran who turns himself in for murdering one of his friends during the Battle of Iwo Jima. The war veteran is also suffering from severe Alzheimer’s, which contributes to the NCIS investigators doubting his story.
At one point in the episode the war veteran brings up Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw, which ultimately ends up with him dancing with one of the investigators while he sings. The monologue is quoted below:
You guys like Benny Goodman?
I’m an Artie Shaw guy myself.
Now don’t get me wrong Benny Goodman was great.
But Artie Shaw… when he lifted that clarinet…
Boy did we argue about that…
Wade, loved Goodman.
Me, Artie Shaw, any day.
*Proceeds to dance while singing “Begin the Beguine”*
“Call of Silence” aired first aired on November 23, 2004 to 14.71 million viewers.
