Bill Cosby on sitting in with Sonny Stitt

Return to search

This hilarious clip features an animated Bill Cosby recanting his experience as a youngster sitting in at a jam session Philadelphia. What makes this a delight to listen to and watch is the accuracy and ease with which Cosby relays the who's-who and how-to of jazz. He speaks of Reggie Workman, Max Roach, Art Blakey, Art Taylor and more, as well as the function of the different limbs on a kit ("The left hand is where the cool stuff is at!"). The comedic climax comes when Sonny Stitt joins the session and calls "Cherokee."
